Southern Chapter Training

December 9, 2023 8:00 am - 4:00 pm SBCSD Chino Hills Station

Training:           SOGIE… Everybody has one! [0830-1200]
Presented By:  Jamie Velazquez, PhD, Crittenton Services for Children and Families

Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, & Expression (“SOGIE”) is sometimes (mistakenly) used interchangeably with LGBTQ.  So what do all these letters mean?  How do we discover the SOGIE of those we engage with in a respectful and authentic way?  Join us for a review and conversation to deepen our understanding of SOGIE, as well as what it means to be LGBTQ.

Training:           Racial and Identity Profiling Act (RIPA) and Stop Data Collection Requirements and Regulations  [1300-1600]
Presented By:  Joanne Kemmer and Allison Steen, Department of Justice (DOJ)

The Racial and Identity Act of 2015 (RIPA) requires all city and county law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in California, as well as the California Highway Patrol and peace officers of California State and university educational institutions, to collect perceived demographic and other detailed data regarding pedestrian and traffic stops.

The information presented pertains to the background, legislation, and data elements required under RIPA and will also include the review of specific scenarios to gain an understanding of how data on stops will be reported into a statewide repository. The session will be presented by instructors from the Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Rights Enforcement Section and California Justice Information Services Division.

Presentation will be interactive to assist field units with specific scenarios that will solicit the selection of appropriate responses.  Presenters will also be joined by a member of the Civil Rights Enforcement Section (CRES) to assist and answer any questions.
